How do I create
balance on my layouts?
Balance ensures that a particular item on your layout doesn’t receive too much undeserved attention. Factors influencing balance include the size, shape, and visual weight of objects. To achieve balance, experiment with the following concepts.
Symmetry. Symmetry is like using a mirror image—the object is exactly the same on each side of a center line. This creates stability on your layout.
Asymmetry. The opposite of symmetry, asymmetry gives designers more freedom and adds a dynamic feel to your page.
Visual Triangle. Placing items in a triangular shape allows your eye to follow its natural tendency to join objects on a page. For variation, arrange objects in a “Z” shape—your eye likes to view items from the top left to the bottom right of a page.
Repetition. Repeating shapes, colors, and sizes of objects on a page also helps create balance and unify your layout.
