Steps 1 - 3
1. Open the picture file you want to edit and create a working copy of the photo you are going to edit using SAVE AS and select the Photoshop (*.PSD, *.PDD) format.
2. Select the LASSO tool from the TOOLS window and remove the photo background by drawing a rough outline around the subject. To select multiple background areas, press SHIFT (Windows) or Option (Mac) while using the lasso tool.
3. Making sure the background is selected, choose SELECT, INVERSE to select the subject then EDIT, COPY. Create a new document and make sure the CONTENTS box is set to TRANSPARENT. PASTE the copied image into the new document, leaving you with a copy of the photo subject on a checkerboard background. Clean the edges of the image using the ERASER tool.
