I made this collage to showcase a letter my Grandmother wrote to me in the year before she died. She had a thick Irish brogue despite her years of living in New York City. I was 7 years old at the time, she wanted me to join her in New York City for the St. Patrick's Day Parade. She promised that "the teacher will let you off, I know you have school". Supplies I used included: copy of the original letter on aged paper, crepe paper streamers, scraps of wrapping paper Hallmark holiday cards 2 vintage postcards The gold brocade trim, rickrack, and sequin trim remind me of costumes worn by marching band musicians and baton spinning twirlers. Final touch ups added with a Krylon gold leafing pen. |
