April Photo Challenge: Action

This April, we’re challenging all our readers to see their lives and the world around them with a creative eye. Follow our photo prompts every day. Upload your photos to Facebook (/scrapbooksetcmagazine) or Twitter (@scrapbooksetc) and tag us in your photo/post so we can see! Visit our blog every day for inspiration, great photo tips, and to see pics from our staff.

Today’s photo challenge is action. Do the photos in your scrapbook pages need a little energy? Snag a subject on the move to get away from always taking posed and perfect pictures. Action shots capture life and candid moments. Get our best action photography tips here.

Instead of sharing my own picture, I’m sharing one of my favorite layouts that demonstrates a great action shot! The designer, Kim, used a not-so-perfect action photos of a zooming taxi to make perfect travel page. The blurry photo of a New York City cab creates a sense of motion in her design. See the sources here.

April Photo Challenge: Family/Friends

This April, we’re challenging all our readers to see their lives and the world around them with a creative eye. Follow our photo prompts every day. Today’s photo challenge is family/friends. Many times, family and friends are why we start scrapbooking–and why we keep scrapbooking. Taking photos of your loved ones (whether it’s a special occasion or just a normal Tuesday), is what inspires many of our pages.

See the picture I took below for my family/friends challenge. I have millions of pictures of my best friend and I, so I wanted to represent our friendship in a different way. We went out for dinner at our favorite restaurant and both ordered the exact same meal and exact same drinks. I took a picture of our food to show how alike we are.

April Photo Challenge: Inspiration

Today’s photo challenge is inspiration. Scrapbooking ideas can come from anywhere — the morning paper, your garden, Pinterest (see our boards here), or fabric. Creativity can be inspired by fantastic pictures, someone else’s scrapbook page, or life in general. Look for inspiration in everyday life and you’ll never run out of fresh ideas.

See the picture I took below for my inspiration challenge. The picture is of a calendar and small art collage made entirely of Kaari Meng’s “French General” line for EK Success. I was so inspired by her beautiful products that I couldn’t help but craft.

April Photo Challenge: Spring

Upload your photos to Facebook (/scrapbooksetcmagazine) or Twitter (@scrapbooksetc) and tag us in your photo/post so we can see! Today’s photo challenge is spring. It’s a great reminder to get outside, enjoy the weather, and document the season before summer comes. Spring could be represented in a variety of ways — flowers, nature, spring cleaning, spring break, or even taxes. Get creative and show off what spring means to you.

See the picture I took below for my spring challenge. I went to a baseball game with my dad — Brewers versus Cardinals. It was the opening weekend for baseball season, the weather was fantastic, and the fans were enthusiastic. It was a great time and I made sure to document it with pictures!

April Photo Challenge: Fashion

This April, we’re challenging all our readers to see their lives and the world around them with a creative eye. Follow our photo prompts every day. Today’s photo challenge is fashion. Documenting what you’re wearing or how you look is a great way to show your personality and style on a scrapbook page. It can also say so much more — like the temperature, your activities for the day, and how you were feeling about yourself. One picture can say a whole lot!

See the picture I took below for my fashion challenge. After I did a load of laundry, I noticed that the clothes I laid to dry out were all the same color scheme. It shows the kind of colors I’m attracted to, the kind of styles I’m into, and the kind of job I have.

April Photo Challenge: Series

This April, we’re challenging all our readers to see their lives and the world around them with a creative eye. Follow our photo prompts every day. Upload your photos to Facebook (/scrapbooksetcmagazine) or Twitter (@scrapbooksetc) and tag us in your photo/post so we can see! Visit our blog every day for inspiration, great photo tips, and to see pics from our staff.

Today’s photo challenge is series. Sometimes it’s fun to express an event through a series of similar pictures — such as a child blowing out their birthday candle or a dog running through the park. You can use photo editing software to piece the pictures together and print out for a simple way to add photo strip style accents to your page. Get directions for that here.

See the picture I took below for my series challenge. I was making a trip from Iowa to my parent’s house for the weekend. I took one picture out my car window every hour to show the lapse of time and the change in scenery. It’s a great representation of my trip.

Today’s photo challenge is home. Here at Scrapbooks Etc., we see home as more of a feeling. This challenge will help you discover what home means to you  – the physical house, the city you live in, your family, a comforting object — and capture it in one shot.

See the picture I took below for my home challenge. This is the view from my apartment. It’s what attracted me to my apartment when I first saw it and I love sitting on my porch every night with a cup of tea and overlooking the city.

April Photo Challenge: Dinner

This April, we’re challenging all our readers to see their lives and the world around them with a creative eye. Follow our photo prompts every day. Upload your photos to Facebook (/scrapbooksetcmagazine) or Twitter (@scrapbooksetc) and tag us in your photo/post so we can see! Today’s photo challenge is dinner. Many of us only remember to document the big events in our life — the weddings, vacations, and birthdays. But what about all the other moments that make up our lives? The things we consider “ordinary” are perfect ways to document our true lives and selves. Something as small as what you made for dinner shows a lot about who you are.

See the picture I took below for my dinner challenge. I live alone, so my dinners are never anything impressive. Instead of highlighting a small dish of casserole, I took a picture of the oven while I was cooking. It’s a creative way to show what went into a meal.

April Photo Challenge: Black and White

This April, we’re challenging all our readers to see their lives and the world around them with a creative eye. Follow our photo prompts every day. Upload your photos to Facebook (/scrapbooksetcmagazine) or Twitter (@scrapbooksetc) and tag us in your photo/post so we can see! Visit our blog every day for inspiration, great photo tips, and to see pics from our staff.

Today’s photo challenge is black and white. Many times we think we can’t use a photo, because the colors don’t match our layout or they are distracting to the overall look we’re trying to achieve. Shooting in black and white can solve these problems. Not only will the photo match any layout and color, but it adds an unexpected pop to your projects. If your camera doesn’t shoot in black and white, see our tips for using editing software to transform your pics here.

See the picture I took below for my black and white challenge. I just bought a new lamp that I love, but the color clashes with my neon yellow table. By turning my camera setting to black and white, I was able to take a beautiful shot of the lamp. By turning the lamp’s light on, I got nice contrast and shadow to the picture to give it dimension.

April Photo Challenge: Card

This April, we’re challenging all our readers to see their lives and the world around them with a creative eye. Follow our photo prompts every day. Upload your photos to Facebook (/scrapbooksetcmagazine) or Twitter (@scrapbooksetc) and tag us in your photo/post so we can see! Visit our blog every day for inspiration, great photo tips, and to see pics from our staff.

Today’s photo challenge is a card you made. It’s sometimes easy to forget how much we craft. Making a quick card for a birthday or holiday sometimes gets overlooked as being creative, especially since we give them away. Taking pictures of the cards you make before you send them is a nice reminder of how hard you worked, the fun ideas you had, and is great inspiration for future projects.

See the picture I took below for my card challenge. It’s a nautical card perfect for a summer greeting. Get more nautical card ideas here.  This picture helps me remember what supplies I used and can also document the kind of a card maker I was into at this point in my life.
