Today’s photo challenge is a technology. What technology can’t you live without? Which technology do you wish wasn’t such a big part of your life?

See my technology picture below. It was taken at my laundr0mat. I love how the clothes look spinning around in the dryer.

April Photo Challenge: Darkness

This April, we’re challenging all our readers to see their lives and the world around them with a creative eye. Follow our photo prompts every day. Upload your photos to Facebook (/scrapbooksetcmagazine) or Twitter (@scrapbooksetc) and tag us in your photo/post so we can see! Today’s photo challenge is a darkness. It’s hard to take good pictures in the dark! But there are a few tricks to making sure your pictures turn out every time, even when the lighting isn’t very good. Make sure your camera is steady. Since taking pictures at night uses a slower shutter speed, any movement of the camera will cause a blur. If you have a camera that allows you to change it’s settings, increase your ISO, which allows your camera to take in more light.

See my darkness picture below. It was taken out of my hotel window on a recent trip to California. You can make out the palm trees against the lighting from the building behind, giving an unexpected picture of a typical photo opp.

Today’s photo challenge is a relaxation. What activities help you keep calm? What people do you turn to when you’re stressed?

See my relaxation picture below. One of my favorite activities is hiking. I took a trip to upper Michigan last year and took a nice hike. The weather was wonderful, the park had amazing waterfalls, and the scenery was beautiful.

April Photo Challenge: Portrait

Today’s photo challenge is a portrait. Whoever your subject and whatever your location, the goal of good portrait-taking is the same: to capture the character and personality of your subject. See our best portrait photography tips here.

See my portrait below. My friend took it of me for my college graduation picture. Although the pic is focused on the subject, it gives a beautiful view of the landscape in the background and has good lighting without shadows.

April Photo Challenge: Chore

This April, we’re challenging all our readers to see their lives and the world around them with a creative eye. Follow our photo prompts every day. Upload your photos to Facebook (/scrapbooksetcmagazine) or Twitter (@scrapbooksetc) and tag us in your photo/post so we can see! Today’s photo challenge is a chore. What chore do you love? Which ones do you absolutely hate?

See my chore below. I’m notorious for running out of bowls. I’ve even skipped breakfast a few times because I haven’t had anything to pour my cereal into. The fact is, I have a dish washer, so there’s really no reason for me to ever run out of dishes. But I refuse to run it unless it’s completely stuffed.

April Photo Challenge: Can’t Live Without

This April, we’re challenging all our readers to see their lives and the world around them with a creative eye. Follow our photo prompts every day. Upload your photos to Facebook (/scrapbooksetcmagazine) or Twitter (@scrapbooksetc) and tag us in your photo/post so we can see! Visit our blog every day for inspiration, great photo tips, and to see pics from our staff.

Today’s photo challenge is something you can’t live without. It could be a crafting supply you absolutely need. Or a beauty product that you’d be lost without. It could be your best friend or children. The one thing you’d pick to never do without says a lot about who you are and what you need in life.

See the thing I can’t live without below. I drink cups and cups of tea everyday at work. I find it very relaxing and it helps calm me down when the work starts piling up!

Eco-Friendly Scrapbook Products

It’s Earth Day! To celebrate, we’ve put together a list of eco-friendly scrapbook products that are beautiful to use on pages, but are better for their environment, too!

Baker’s twine is all the rage these days. Hemptique® supplies baker’s twine from 100% cotton cording. Its’ other hemp  and twine products are made from bamboo, organic cotton, and other natural fiber-based products. The colors are beautiful and the natural materials won’t damage pages or pictures. Although they sell wholesale, their products can be found in individual colors on Amazon.

Several paper companies have stepped up their actions and and made their paper more sustainable. We love Die Cuts With a View “Green” line, which features paper and chipboard shapes printed on 70% recycled paper. Try looking for papers that were printed with soy ink, too.

To cut down on plastic packaging, choose a tape runner that takes refills, such as Xyron’s Mega Runner. Instead of throwing away the tape runner every time you run out, this tape runner holds a significant amount of tape, which makes for less refills and plastic.

April Photo Challenge: Craft Space

This April, we’re challenging all our readers to see their lives and the world around them with a creative eye. Follow our photo prompts every day. Upload your photos to Facebook (/scrapbooksetcmagazine) or Twitter (@scrapbooksetc) and tag us in your photo/post so we can see! Visit our blog every day for inspiration, great photo tips, and to see pics from our staff.

Today’s photo challenge is crafts space. Do you have that coveted crafts room you always wanted? Or do you take over a table in the kitchen for your projects? No matter where you craft, make sure the space is inspirational! Turn on some music or tune out distractions depending on the type of crafter you are and get creative!

See my crafts space below. I love sitting on the floor when crafting. I keep my current projects and supplies together so that I can just grab them from my closet and spread everything out.

April Photo Challenge: Hands

This April, we’re challenging all our readers to see their lives and the world around them with a creative eye. Follow our photo prompts every day. Upload your photos to Facebook (/scrapbooksetcmagazine) or Twitter (@scrapbooksetc) and tag us in your photo/post so we can see! Visit our blog every day for inspiration, great photo tips, and to see pics from our staff.

Today’s photo challenge is hands. As we always note in our photo studio, hands are hard to photograph. Many times hands end up looking big or awkward in photos, even if they feel natural while taking them. But hands can say a lot about a person. What color nail polish are they wearing? Do they have calluses? Any scars? Hands are what we use for creating.

See the hands picture from Jennifer Keltner below. She used hands as her inspiration for an entire album. See the album here.

April Photo Challenge: Nature

This April, we’re challenging all our readers to see their lives and the world around them with a creative eye. Follow our photo prompts every day. Upload your photos to Facebook (/scrapbooksetcmagazine) or Twitter (@scrapbooksetc) and tag us in your photo/post so we can see! Visit our blog every day for inspiration, great photo tips, and to see pics from our staff.

Today’s photo challenge is nature. It’s easy to get so caught up on taking pictures of people that we forget to capture the places around us. Including pictures of nature in your scrapbooking can tell important stories, too! See our best tips for taking pictures of nature here.

See my nature pic below. It’s of the Better Homes and Gardens test garden right outside our offices. I took the picture from the second floor, so you can see down into the garden, but also to get its juxtaposition with the city line in the background.
